Dear Brethren:

Betty and I as we always do traveled to Florida to attend the annual Winter Conference on behalf of Baptist Faith Missions, hosted by Park Ridge Baptist Church of Gotha, Florida where Danny King serves as pastor.  The attendance was better this year and each speaker was at their very best.  The central theme seemed to me that came out in most of the messages was, "Let us get our focus off ourselves and get it on Christ."  Perhaps others saw other themes, but this is what came to me.

After the conference, as we always do we spent several days with our good friends, Brother Grantham and Sister Pat Epps, that always treat us like royalty.  We attended church with them on Sunday morning, and then that night I preached to the brethren of Southside Baptist Church in Winter Haven where we were members several years ago.  We received a royal welcome, and we thank them for such a great time.  This church is seeking a pastor at this time.

While still in Florida we received notice that Pastor Richard Turner had gone home to be with his Lord.  Brother Turner and his family served in Brazil just across the river from my family and me.  During the twelve or thirteen years we served together their children and our two girls grew from children to teenagers together.  Brother Turner and his family organized Good Hope Baptist Church, and Richard's teaching of the church can still be felt by anyone that visits that church.  My loss by his departure is very great, but I am sure that of Wanda and the children is much greater, so please join me to continue to pray for them that they might find grace to go forward.
